Guelph Black Heritage Society
Take a tour of the Heritage Hall. This historic structure was built in 1880 by formerly enslaved Black individuals and their descendants who came to Canada via the famed Underground Railroad. Learn about the history of the building and the artifacts in the GBHS collection, check out the “Freedom Project” addition, take a picture in front of the Underground Railroad mosaic tile art display and look around the Flora Blizzard Francis Library of Black Literature! The purpose of the Guelph Black Heritage Society (GBHS) is to preserve the historical significance of the former Guelph British Methodist Episcopal (BME) Church building by creating a cultural, historical and social centre within Guelph and Wellington County. The Guelph BME Church building has been renamed Heritage Hall. To book a tour Heritage Hall visit the GBHS website.
